Natural Bridges Migration Festival

Fly, swim, waddle, walk, bike or drive as you migrate to Natural Bridges State Beach for a full-day of activities that celebrate the migration of whales, butterflies, birds and the many creatures that travel. The park will host migratory animal talks, active kids’ games, crafts, skits, live music by the nature-loving 5M’s Band, educational booths and displays, along with the now-famous free habitat-cake served at the end of the event. You can purchase a picnic at the park or bring your own. Natural Bridges State Beach is located at 2531 West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Day-use parking fee is $10 and supports the park. Birding Along the San Lorenzo River

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, in partnership with the Santa Cruz Bird Club, invites you to join in our wonderful birding series along the San Lorenzo River. The San Lorenzo River has over two hundred bird species known to migrate through or live on the river. Expert birders from the Santa Cruz Bird Club will be guiding these early morning workshops, open to families and bird lovers of all ages.

FREE Admission. Pre-Registration required, space limited.
All programs run 8:30-10:30am.

Erosion and Drainage Control for Rural Roads: Tour and Training

Join us for a FREE tour and presentation.

Learn and share construction & maintenance options on improving road drainage and reducing erosion for contractors, landowners, road managers, and maintenance crews. Discuss proven techniques and hear new options for managing both paved and unpaved rural roads.

• Identifying problems early
• Culvert sizing, placement & repair
• Outsloped versus insloped roads
• Forest and seasonal roads

What can soil surfaces tell us about water infiltration, carbon cycling, policies, and practices? A participatory workshop for farmers, ranchers, land trusts, and citizens. Climate change on your mind? Learn the surprising role of soils and plants in reducing excess CO2 in the air.

Co-sponsored by Santa Cruz and San Mateo County RCDs (Resource Conservation Districts -- Sacha Lozano and Irina Kogan), Farm Fuel Inc., CalCAN (California Climate & Agriculture Network), and UCSC CASFS (Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems).
