Monterey Bay Greenhouse Growers Open House

Come visit the beautiful blooms of the Monterey Bay and stop by the RCD info table at Kitayama Brothers!  Ever wonder what beauty lies behind the glass in a greenhouse?  Now’s your chance during the 5th Annual Monterey Bay Greenhouse Growers Open House on June 21st!  There will be an array of flowers, herbs, and plants to see ranging from orchids and roses to gerberas, succulents, edible herbs and more while touring these Monterey Bay farms.  Enjoy these guided tours with the growers themselves as you learn about growing CA GROWN flowers, herbs, and plants for commercial purposes.  Information will include several areas such as propagation, fertilizing, pest control, harvesting, etc.  We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing as many of these tours will involve walking through greenhouses or growing areas and vary in temperatures.  This event is FREE and open to the public thanks to our sponsors. Arana Gulch Volunteer Planting Day

Arana Gulch Planting Day Final-HTWhat: The Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County, the City of Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Harbor, Hilltromper and the Watershed Stewards Project (a program of Americorps and the California Conservation Corps) are hosting a native plant installation event at Arana Gulch. These efforts support riparian habitat restoration and water course enhancement, in the Arana Gulch Watershed. This area is home to many important critters and plants that make our city and county one of the most ecologically diverse in the country. Please come help us improve and maintain our home’s beauty and richness!

When:The event will take place on Saturday March 28th, from 9am through 12pm. If you can’t make it for the whole thing, don’t worry. Every little bit helps! If we finish up the planting early, we can do some invasive plant removal too!

Where: We will be meeting at the southern end of the Arana Gulch Trail at 9 am. The most convenient parking is located at the Santa Cruz North Harbor parking lot. The parking lot is metered, so please remember to bring some coins if you decide to park there.

Shovels, gloves, coffee, and light snacks will be provided. However, if you have your own tools and gloves please bring them along. And as always, whenever we are working outside with tools we recommend you bring long pants, long sleeve shirts, sunscreen, close-toed shoes, and plenty of water. We want your help, but we also want everyone safe!

You can claim community service hours for this event. Please remember to bring your paperwork!

We look forward to working with you.
